Culinary
Used in meat and poultry dishes to add an aniseed flavour. Particularly good with pork and duck. The whole star may be added to the recipe or may be broken into segments.
Star anise is the fruit of a small oriental tree and is harvested before the fruit has had time to ripen.

Medicinal
Star anise has carminative, stomachic, stimulant and diuretic properties.
