Culinary
The Basil leaf can be torn with the fingers or chopped. Chopped Basil may be sprinkled over salads and is commonly used with tomatoes.
Added at the end of cooking Basil has a pungent flavor and is used in many mediterranean dishes and Pesto's.

Medicinal
When grown in a pot the Basil plant may be situated in the kitchen to help deter flies.
